The "Violini d'Autore" project (2020)

Ezia di Labio, the violin luthier, asked me to paint on a violin as part of the project "Violini d'Aurore". The inspiration came from the ancient Japanese traditional art of painted women and images of “hagoita”. A hagoita is a wooden racket decorated with a beautifully painted or quilted image of a woman used for New Year’s outdoor games similar to badminton. On the back of the violin, I brushed an ancient romantic poem of "Manyò-shu" from the 11th century over the background of a cherry blossom painting. When this pandemic ends a violin concert will be planned using this painted instrument.
